YouTube Shorts Statistics 2026: Growth, Views, and Marketing Data
TL;DR:
YouTube Shorts statistics for 2026 show 200B daily views, massive reach, new view counting, and stronger monetization for creators and brands.

YouTube Shorts is no longer a side feature inside YouTube. As of April 30, 2026, the latest official public milestone is that YouTube Shorts averages over 200 billion daily views, a figure YouTube CEO Neal Mohan shared in June 2025. Earlier official YouTube data showed Shorts had already reached over 70 billion daily views and more than 2 billion signed-in users every month in 2023. 1

That scale sits inside a platform with enormous reach: Pew Research found 84% of U.S. adults use YouTube, and 90% of U.S. teens use it, with 73% of teens saying they use YouTube daily. 8

There is one important caveat behind any 2026 YouTube Shorts statistics article: view counting changed on March 31, 2025. Since then, YouTube counts a Short view whenever a Short starts to play or replay, with no minimum watch time requirement. YouTube still keeps the original metric as "engaged views," and that is the metric YouTube says it continues to use for Shorts revenue sharing and YouTube Partner Program eligibility. In other words, public view counts after March 31, 2025 are broader than older Shorts view counts, so apples-to-apples comparisons across years require caution. 2

YouTube has also widened what a Short can be. Since October 15, 2024, creators have been able to upload Shorts up to 3 minutes long if the video is square or taller. That matters because it gives creators and brands more room for story, product education, and stronger hooks without leaving the Shorts format. 3

Reach, Growth, And Discovery Data

The growth arc for Shorts has been steep. In March 2021, YouTube said the Shorts player had surpassed 6.5 billion daily views globally. By 2022, when YouTube outlined its Shorts revenue-sharing plan, the company said Shorts had grown to over 30 billion daily views and 1.5 billion monthly logged-in users. 11 12

In early 2023, YouTube said Shorts was generating 50 billion daily views as of December 2022. By September 2023, Shorts had climbed to over 70 billion daily views from over 2 billion signed-in users each month. Then, in June 2025, YouTube announced Shorts had crossed 200 billion daily views. 4, 13

Growth milestone Official figure Why it matters
March 2021 6.5B daily views Early global traction for the format 11
2022 30B daily views, 1.5B monthly logged-in users Shorts became mass-market, not experimental 12
December 2022 50B daily views Momentum accelerated before ad revenue sharing launched 13
September 2023 70B daily views, 2B+ signed-in monthly users Shorts reached truly global scale 4
June 2025 200B daily views Latest official public benchmark as of April 2026 1

That timeline is impressive, but again, benchmarking requires care. Shorts views counted under the post-March 2025 method include any start or replay, while monetization and deeper performance analysis continue to use engaged views. So, when you see older and newer Shorts statistics side by side, think of them as directional growth signals, not perfectly comparable like-for-like metrics.

Discovery is also broader than many marketers realize. YouTube says viewers can find Shorts in the Shorts Feed, in YouTube search results, on the YouTube homepage, in Subscriptions, and through notifications. Shorts can also appear in search results across YouTube on most smart TVs, game consoles, and other streaming devices. 2

In YouTube Analytics, creators can break out Shorts traffic from sources such as Shorts feed, YouTube search, channel pages, browse features, external, and remixed traffic. That makes Shorts a discovery format with both feed behavior and search behavior.

Shorts is also moving beyond phones. YouTube said in February 2024 that views of YouTube Shorts on connected TVs grew by more than 100% from January to September 2023. For brands and creators, that matters because it means vertical, quick-hit content is not just a mobile swipe habit anymore. It is increasingly part of living-room viewing too. 14

At the same time, the content supply on YouTube is massive. In April 2025, YouTube said there were over 20 billion uploaded videos on the platform and that, on average, over 20 million videos are uploaded daily. Shorts benefits from YouTube’s scale, but it also competes inside one of the most crowded content environments on the internet. 15

One more stat matters for growth strategy: YouTube has repeatedly suggested Shorts works best as part of a broader channel system. In July 2022, YouTube said official artist channels uploading both Shorts and long-form video were seeing better overall watch time and subscriber growth than channels only uploading long-form. 16

In a separate 2023 music update, YouTube said that, in January 2023, artists active on Shorts saw more than 50% of their new channel subscribers come directly from Shorts posts on average. Those findings were artist-specific, but they strongly support the wider idea that Shorts can be a discovery engine that feeds deeper channel engagement. 13

Marketing Impact And Monetization Data

For marketers, the case for Shorts is closely tied to the broader rise of short-form video. In HubSpot’s 2024 Video Marketing Report, based on 500+ video marketers, 83% said they use short-form video.

HubSpot also found short-form video had the highest ROI of all video formats and ranked first for lead generation and engagement. When those marketers were asked about ideal length, 42% said 21 to 30 seconds and 32% said 31 to 60 seconds. 17

That pattern continued into 2026. In HubSpot’s 2026 State of Marketing, based on data from 1,500+ global marketers, short-form video was the highest-ROI media format, with 48.6% of marketers placing it at the top. HubSpot also reported that channel-specific content performs better, which is especially relevant for Shorts because the format rewards native pacing, quick hooks, and direct storytelling rather than recycled long-form clips. 9

Wyzowl’s 2026 survey adds the consumer and channel side of the picture. Wyzowl said 91% of businesses now use video as a marketing tool, 82% of businesses upload video to YouTube, and 69% say YouTube is effective for them. On the consumer side, 63% said they would most like to learn about a product or service by watching a short video, 85% said video has convinced them to buy a product or service, and 84% said they want to see more videos from brands in 2026. 18

Monetization is another reason Shorts deserves serious attention. YouTube says monetizing partners can earn from ads shown between videos in the Shorts Feed. That revenue is pooled monthly, partly used to cover music licensing, and then distributed into a Creator Pool based on eligible engaged views. After that, monetizing creators keep 45% of their allocated revenue, whether or not they used music. That is not the same model as long-form YouTube watch-page ads, but it does mean Shorts has a clear, official ad-revenue system. 6

The threshold structure matters too. For the expanded YouTube Partner Program, creators in eligible countries can apply with 500 subscribers, 3 valid public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months or 3 million valid public Shorts views in the past 90 days. For full revenue sharing from ads and YouTube Premium, creators need 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 valid public watch hours or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the past 90 days. 5

YouTube is also pushing Shorts beyond ad revenue into commerce and partnerships. In a 2025 update, YouTube said Shorts creators will be able to add a link to a brand’s site specifically for brand deals, helping creators show advertisers direct traffic and conversion impact. In the same post, YouTube said YouTube Shopping GMV grew 5X year over year and that more than 500,000 creators were enrolled in the Shopping program globally as of July 2025. 19

Finally, Shorts sits inside a much larger YouTube business. Alphabet’s Q1 2026 earnings release reported $9.883 billion in YouTube ads revenue for the quarter, and Alphabet said YouTube’s annual revenue surpassed $60 billion across ads and subscriptions in 2025. Those numbers are not Shorts-only, but they show the platform surrounding Shorts has serious commercial depth. 10

What These Statistics Mean In 2026

Shorts is now a scale play.

Over 200 billion daily views is not niche traffic. Add YouTube’s broad adult and teen reach, and Shorts becomes one of the clearest ways to reach people across age groups on a video-first platform.

Metrics need more nuance than raw views.

Because Shorts view counting changed in 2025, public view totals alone are less useful than they used to be for comparing performance over time. Creators and brands should watch engaged views, stayed to watch, subscribers gained, and downstream actions, not just the headline view number.

Short does not have to mean ultra-short, but concise still wins.

YouTube now allows Shorts up to 3 minutes, yet marketer studies still point to sub-60-second videos as the sweet spot for ROI, engagement, and product education. For many teams, that means the best Shorts strategy is not simply making videos longer. It is making the first few seconds clearer and more useful.

Shorts works best inside a multi-format system.

Official YouTube artist data suggests channels that combine Shorts with long-form video can improve watch time and subscriber growth, and Shorts can send viewers deeper into a channel ecosystem. That is a strong argument for pairing Shorts with tutorials, explainers, livestreams, product pages, or related long-form videos.

YouTube Shorts is becoming more commercially useful.

Ad revenue sharing, Shopping growth, and brand-deal links mean Shorts is not just a top-of-funnel awareness format anymore. It is increasingly positioned to support discovery, traffic, and commerce in the same ecosystem.

For creators and brands publishing in 2026, the practical takeaway is simple: script a strong opening, deliver value fast, treat Shorts as searchable content, and connect every Short to a bigger content or conversion path. The data increasingly rewards that approach.
