We pulled the most recent App Store reviews for the six most-downloaded teleprompter apps on iOS, including our own, and read what people actually said. This is what they told us, including the parts about us that are not flattering.
Every teleprompter app’s website will tell you it is the best teleprompter app. Ours does too. So instead of adding another page of adjectives, we did something we have not seen anyone in this category do: we exported the last 1,000 written App Store reviews for each of the six biggest teleprompter apps on iOS (5,598 reviews in total, because two apps have fewer than 1,000), coded every English-language review by topic, and ranked the apps by what their own users report.
We did rank ourselves first. We think the data supports it. But we also publish the numbers that do not favor us, because the whole point of a teleprompter is to help you get the take without stopping, and a list that stops to hide things would be a strange way to sell one.
People do not review “scrolling text”. Reading through 5,598 reviews, five questions come up again and again, and they are the questions you should ask before you install anything:
The ranking below weighs the first two questions most, because they decide whether you walk away with a usable video. Where an app loses points, we say so, including for our own.
All figures come from our review export (September 2026). “Sample average” is the mean star rating of the written reviews we pulled, which is always lower than the headline App Store rating because people who write reviews complain more than people who tap stars. It is the comparison between apps that matters, not the absolute number.
Three things jump out before we get to the individual apps. First, the two Teleprompter Apps Ltd products and Teleprompter.com form a clear top tier; the gap between third and fourth place is bigger than the gap between first and third. The all-time column flatters the apps with long histories, so the fairer comparison is the last twelve months, where every app is judged on the same period: there Teleprompter.com and Teleprompter are level at 3.86, Teleprompter.com has the highest share of four- and five-star reviews (70%), and it collected more written reviews than any other app in the category, 998 against 826 for the next busiest.
Second, there are really two kinds of teleprompter app on this list: the ones you follow, where you set a scroll speed and keep up with it (Teleprompter Pro and Teleprompter), and the ones that follow you, where the text moves with your voice. Four apps offer the second kind, and only one of them is reliably praised for it: Teleprompter.com’s voice pacing is 87% positive, against 50% for Teleprompter for Video, 20% for BIGVU and 16% for PromptSmart Pro, the app that talks about it most.
Third, within the top tier the choice comes down to who the app is built for, which is why the “Pick it if” lines below matter as much as the order.
Best for: anyone who records to camera regularly, on a phone in hand or on a glass rig, and wants to get the take on the first try. Works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and the web on one subscription.

The feature Teleprompter.com’s users talk about more than anything else is VoiceGlide, the mode where the script scrolls at the speed you are actually speaking rather than a fixed speed you set in advance. Nine percent of all English reviews mention voice-paced scrolling, and 87% of those mentions come with four or five stars, the best combination of volume and approval in the category. It is also the only app in the top tier that has the feature at all: Teleprompter Pro and Teleprompter scroll at a fixed speed, and their own reviewers ask for voice following (“It needs more options like scroll by voice like its competition”).
A smaller point that matters more than it sounds, and one the reviews do not spell out because it is a product detail: Teleprompter.com also lets you set scroll speed in words per minute. Fixed-speed prompters move the text a set number of pixels per second, so every time you change the font size or the margins, the pace changes with it and you have to re-tune the speed by feel. A words-per-minute setting stays tied to how fast you actually talk, whatever the text looks like on screen. Between VoiceGlide, words per minute, timed scrolling (fit the script to a set duration) and plain fixed speed, it is the only app in the top tier with more than one way to pace a script.
Users describe the outcome, not the feature:
“I especially like the feature that allows the text to scroll at the exact pace that I’m speaking naturally instead of a fixed scroll speed. This is something very rare amongst Teleprompter apps that I haven’t encountered anywhere else.”
"Finally, I’m not looking “over there” to read my script, then “over here"to look in the camera. And the “auto-scroll” follows MY pace. Slower when I want emphasis and then faster for urgency.”
“This app has literally been a game changer for my social media content. It’s no longer overwhelming, as I get all my videos done in 2 takes or less instead of 50!!”
“This has facilitated getting high quality videos to social media with minimal editing because there are no mistakes or retakes”
The second theme is that it does not fall over mid-recording. Only 4.3% of reviews mention a crash, freeze or bug, the lowest rate in the category, and audio problems appear in 3% of low reviews, against 17% for Teleprompter for Video. Five reviews out of 702 English ones mention a lost or unsaved recording.
Put differently: when Teleprompter.com users are unhappy, it is rarely because the prompter failed. Only 18% of its one- and two-star reviews mention a technical problem at all, against 37% to 63% for every other app on this list.
The third theme is the cross-device workflow. Teleprompter.com is the only app on this list that runs natively on iOS, Android, macOS and in a browser, so people write on a Mac and record on a phone:
“Paired with the web app, it makes getting the script into the app and then filming so much faster.”
“I’ve tried multiple teleprompter apps over the years, and all of them had their problems: Voice won’t track, awful script editor, exorbitantly expensive. Teleprompter.com checks all the boxes. I use it on my Mac.”
Many of its users say they arrived from somewhere else: 10.5% of reviews compare it to other teleprompter apps, and 92% of those comparisons are favorable, the highest share in the field.
The most consistent complaint is that Teleprompter.com asks for a commitment. It is subscription-only, the free tier watermarks, exports, and mirrored text is a paid feature (as it now is in both Teleprompter Apps Ltd apps), and you create an account before you start. For someone who needs a prompter once, for a wedding speech or a single presentation, that is more product than the job requires, and their reviews say so. The app is built for people who will be back next week.
Hardware reviews are thinner than Teleprompter Pro’s: 3% of reviews mention an iPad rig, a mirror, a remote or a controller, against 26% for Pro, and they are mixed. A few users found the remote setup confusing and there is one persistent report of camera mirroring resetting between sessions on iOS 26. Pro’s reviewers have simply been writing about glass rigs for five years longer, and if you run a multi-iPad set with a dedicated operator, its track record there is longer.
One update on the remote, since these reviews are about us: we rewrote the Remote Control feature from the ground up this year. Any iPhone, iPad, Android device, Apple Watch, or web browser can now control the prompter with a live preview of what the rig is showing, connecting over Bluetooth, local Wi-Fi, or the internet, whichever is available, and it also takes Bluetooth keyboards, presentation clickers, foot pedals, and game controllers. It has been considerably more stable since the rewrite, and the remote complaints in our reviews predate it.
The Mac app is the youngest of the family, and a few reviews report crashes when recording on Apple Silicon machines. Some users also dislike having to create an account before they can try the prompter.
Finally, it is subscription-only. A recurring segment, especially people with a film or broadcast background, would prefer to buy a teleprompter once:
“working in film production for decades this is the first time I have had to have a subscription to a teleprompter service, so will always rate a subscription service 1 star.”
We rank Teleprompter.com first because it wins the two questions that decide whether you get a usable video: it fails mid-take less often than anything else in the category, and it is the only top-tier app whose script follows your voice, with the highest approval for that feature of any app that offers it. Ease of use is competitive (30.5% versus 36.7% for the leader), device coverage is unmatched, and nobody’s switchers are happier.
Where it loses is honest and specific: it is built for people who record regularly, and it asks you to commit like one. If you need a prompter for a single occasion, a wedding toast or one presentation, any of the top three will do the job, and the fixed-speed Teleprompter app is the simplest to set up once and forget. If you run a multi-iPad set with a dedicated operator, Teleprompter Pro has the longer hardware track record. Everyone in between, which is most people who search for a teleprompter app, is who this one is for.
Pick it if: you record to camera regularly, handheld or on a rig, you want the script to follow you rather than the other way round, and you want the same script on your phone, tablet and computer.
Skip it if: you need a prompter once and never again, or you only want to pay once.
Best for: multi-iPad broadcast sets, and anyone who runs a prompter for someone else at a fixed speed.

Teleprompter Pro is the closest thing the App Store has to a broadcast tool, and its reviews read like it. More than a quarter of them mention an iPad, a mirror rig, a remote or a controller, and 63% of those mentions are positive, by far the best hardware score in the field. Its users have also been around the longest: 4.6% of reviews mention using the app for years, the highest loyalty rate in the sample.
“I have been using teleprompter for more than 5 years and….IT NEVER FAILS!!! Works on the phone, the iPad, whenever and wherever.”
“I’ve been using the Pro version for several years now, and I rely on it for live work like investor pitches as well as recordings for social media.”
“I have sampled most of the teleprompter apps for iPad and Teleprompter Pro is, by far, the best.”
Its reviewers are actors, pastors, wedding officiants, musicians who keep lyrics on an iPad on stage, and camera operators who use one iPad as the prompter and an iPhone as the remote. Script import from Word and Pages gets mentioned often and positively. It has the highest sample average of the six and the lowest rate of audio complaints and lost recordings.
Two clusters. The first is the remote and sync layer, which is precisely the thing pro users buy it for: reviews from 2026 report host and remote iPads losing margin settings after an update, scripts not synchronizing across devices, and one user whose iPhone-controls-iPad setup crashes every time.
The second is packaging. The lifetime unlock and the yearly plan are both criticized by people who feel the app “sees little to no innovation year to year”, and in late 2025 text mirroring moved behind the paywall, which drew a wave of one-star reviews.
There is also a visible dip in late 2025. Teleprompter Pro’s 2025 reviews average 3.45 stars, against 4.51 in 2024 and 3.98 so far in 2026, and the 2025 complaints cluster around instability on iOS 26 (“The developer blames Apple, who does nothing and I’m stuck in the middle”). It appears to have recovered.
If you run a prompter for other people, an operator at a set speed on a multi-iPad rig, Teleprompter Pro is the app the professionals in these reviews keep coming back to, and its reliability record over five years is real. It is a tool you learn rather than a product that follows you: there is no voice-paced scrolling and no words-per-minute setting, you pick a fixed speed (or a total duration), re-tune it whenever you change the font size, and keep to it.
Several reviewers say voice following is the one thing they miss (“I would give it 5 stars if it had voice recognition”). Some of its fans see the fixed speed as a virtue (“It doesn’t have all the glitches that you get with voice activated apps… you just set the speed”), which is a fair point about the apps at the bottom of this list and less of one about the app at the top. It is also Apple-only.
Pick it if: you prompt other people from a multi-iPad set and you like a fixed speed.
Skip it if: you read your own scripts and want the scroll to follow your voice.

Best for: a one-off speech, toast or rehearsal on a handheld phone, with nothing to set up and no account to create.
Sample average 3.88 ★ · 1,000 reviews since March 2025 · 36.7% call it easy (highest in the field)
This is the free front door to the Pro app above, built by the same company, and its reviews are the most relaxed in the category. More than a third use the words “easy”, “simple” or “intuitive”, the highest rate of the six. People use it for auditions, sermons, university lectures, sponsorship posts, and lyrics.
“Actually bought a tripod setup teleprompter and threw it out after getting this app. We use it shooting office staff into videos. Perfect for all we need and sooooo easy to use!”
“My university’s instructional design team recommended Teleprompter because I was struggling to read my notes/script and look at the camera.”
Over the shared window where we can compare all six apps directly (December 2025 to September 2026), it has the highest sample average of the group at 4.01 stars.
Two things, and they are both recent. Starting in late 2025 the developer moved mirrored text, the feature you need for any glass rig, from the free tier into the paid plan, and in April 2026 the change reached people who had been using it free for years: existing users were not grandfathered, the option simply stopped working until they subscribed.
That month alone produced eleven one- and two-star reviews about mirroring, more than the previous eight months combined, and 35 of the 46 reviews that mention mirroring are one or two stars. Only 18% of its hardware mentions are positive.
“I used to use this app the past 4 years (the club even longer) for a school club and today the mirroring in the app became pay-blocked and isn’t functional in any real capacity.”
“I’ve been using teleprompter for years with a teleprompter rig, but recently they locked “mirror text” behind a SUBSCRIPTION paywall.” The second is stability in the summer of 2026: a run of reviews around version 3.75 describe the app freezing when stopping a long recording, the phone overheating, and footage coming out “chunky”.
“Try to record 20+ minute video. Go to end recording. App freezes. Video lost.”
Its overall technical complaint rate (6.2%) is still good, but 39% of its low reviews are purely technical, the highest share in the top tier.
For a single occasion, it is the simplest thing on this list: paste the text, set a speed, hold the phone. The moment you need a mirror or a remote you are being moved toward the Pro plan, and if you want the scroll to follow your voice, or a speed setting in words per minute that does not drift when you change the font size, neither tier offers it (“The only functionality that it misses is the voice sync. So it’s either constant scroll or manual scroll”), which is where the honest comparison becomes Teleprompter Pro versus Teleprompter.com.
Pick it if: you have one speech to give and want the simplest fixed-speed prompter for it.
Skip it if: you need mirroring, long recordings, or the scroll to follow your voice.
Best for: budget creators who want a prompter, captions and a logo in one cheap app, and are willing to fix what the app gets wrong.

Value, and a feature list that punches above its price. Reviewers repeatedly say it “has everything you need”, they like that it records both portrait and landscape, and 12.8% of reviews compare it with other apps the reviewer tried, 84% of them favorably. It also has a large Brazilian and Mexican user base in the reviews (76% of its reviews come from outside the US, the most international sample of the six), which tells you the pricing travels well.
“The free plan is generous, and it was the only one I could find that will actually let you film in portrait mode. Everything else works perfectly.”
“My previous teleprompter app just stopped working and couldn’t get it fixed. I checked this app out and within 10 minutes … I was up and running.”
Audio first. Seventeen percent of its one- and two-star reviews mention microphone or sound problems, by far the highest in the category: sound cutting out, muffled recordings, video and audio out of sync on export, and voice recognition failing when an external DJI microphone is connected.
Captions second, which matters because captions are the reason many people pick it. The recurring complaint is timing: captions that run behind the voice, no timeline to correct them, and formatting that collapses when you edit a word.
“You waste so much time in the app fixing auto captions, it can’t match what is being spoken and gets the timing constantly wrong.”
“There no control timeline with captions. The caption will not match my video.”
“Adding subtitles is a challenge similar when people have to move an image on microsoft word. You change a comma and the while thing loses formatting and go crazy.”
Then a long tail: the character limit in the free version, a trial some users found shorter than advertised, a period around iOS 18 when landscape recording froze on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and voice-paced scrolling that only half of the reviews mentioning it rate positively. None of these on its own is disqualifying.
Together they describe an app where the low price shows: it is the lowest-rated of the four apps whose core prompter basically works, with a 26% one-star share against 19% to 23% for the top three, and its complaints spread across audio, captions, orientation, scrolling and billing rather than concentrating on one fixable thing.
The 2026 numbers suggest the developer has been fixing things: this year’s reviews average 3.81, the best since 2022, and crash mentions are in line with the top tier. It is cheap, it does a lot for the money, and its fans are real. But the reviews describe a tool you work around rather than one that gets out of the way, and if captions are the reason you are buying it, the caption complaints are the ones to read first. If you use an external mic, test it during the trial.
Pick it if: you want the cheapest paid option with captions and you do not mind fixing their timing.
Skip it if: your audio chain involves anything plugged in or paired.
Best for: people who want an AI video-marketing suite (script generation, avatars, captions, scheduling) and treat the prompter as one module.

BIGVU is the only app on this list that has genuinely stepped out of the “tool” category. It writes scripts, generates captions, builds a brand kit and schedules posts. Its five-star reviews are also the most emotional in the whole dataset, and they describe exactly the outcome a teleprompter exists for:
“I was really nervous about doing a video and so I downloaded this app and I tried it out and it totally changed me instead of sounding robotic. I sounded like myself and had amazing eye contact.”
“my videos never had direct eye contact until I tried this.”
It is also the only app whose customer support is a recurring reason for five stars. Nearly 8% of reviews mention support, and reviewers name individual staff members and describe live Zoom onboarding calls.
Almost everything else. One in five reviews mentions a crash, bug or freeze, and 90% of those are negative. The recurring story is a long recording that shows “saving” and then vanishes:
“I have the paid version and just recorded a 20m video; it showed it was saving, but it wasn’t saved. I lost everything.”
Half of its low reviews are about money: tiered plans where the feature you want is always on the next tier up, trials that were hard to cancel, and charges after cancellation. The 2026 reviews average 2.39, the lowest since 2022, so the trend is not improving.
BIGVU is the strongest argument in the dataset for a simple idea: if the prompter is not flawless, nothing built on top of it matters. The ambition is real and the support team is clearly good. But a teleprompter that loses a 20-minute take is not a teleprompter, and its own users say so more often than they say anything else.
Pick it if: you want a marketing platform and you will accept instability for the extras.
Skip it if: you want to press record and have the take.
Best for: people who already own it and have a setup where VoiceTrack works for them.

PromptSmart deserves credit it rarely gets: it was the first voice-tracking teleprompter app on the App Store, years before anyone else, and its loyal users are genuinely loyal. When VoiceTrack works for someone, the reviews are moving:
“Prompt Smart tracks terrific! Occasionally if I play the guitar to loud or aggressively, while delivering my script, Prompt Smart might lose me, but as soon as I quiet down, even slightly, it catches right up. I’m 75, I couldn’t make my presentation without Prompt Smart. I am so grateful for this technology.”
“Its voice activation feature, being able to follow my pacing even pausing when I to off-script is a game changer in the teleprompter world.”
Users who like it tend to be voice-over artists, speakers and small production crews, and 2.6% of reviews mention using it for years, the second-highest loyalty rate after Teleprompter Pro.
The feature it is famous for. PromptSmart Pro is the only app in the dataset where voice tracking is the dominant topic: 38% of all reviews mention it, and only 16% of those mentions are positive. Across every year from 2019 to 2025, reviews that talk about voice tracking average around two stars.
“This app follow your voice for a few seconds and then get stuck. I purchased it but did not able to use it even for a once.”
“It does not efficiently recognise your voice and the script moves up and down very erratically. It has nothing to do with where you are in conversation.”
Stability is the second problem: 26.2% of reviews mention a crash, freeze or bug, the highest rate of the six, with a cluster of 2026 reviews describing a crash on pressing play, and 2.6% of reviews report a lost or unsaved recording, also the highest. The third is packaging: the app is sold as a paid download, and a run of 2026 reviews describe buying it and then discovering that voice scrolling or the remote needs an additional subscription.

The one bright spot is the trend. PromptSmart’s 2026 reviews average 2.55 stars, the best year in its history, and voice-tracking mentions this year average 2.81 against 1.97 in 2025.
PromptSmart is the cautionary tale about the very feature we rank Teleprompter.com first for. Voice-paced scrolling is the most-loved capability in the category when it holds, and the most-hated when it slips, and PromptSmart’s reviews show both sides in one app. If you already own it and it tracks your voice reliably, there is no reason to leave. If you are choosing today, the same idea is executed with far fewer complaints elsewhere on this list.
Pick it if: you own it, it works for your voice and room, and you do not need it to be stable across updates.
Skip it if: you are buying a voice-following prompter for the first time.
Reading 5,598 reviews teaches you things a rating never will.
We exported the most recent written App Store reviews for six apps in September 2026, capped at 1,000 per app: Teleprompter.com (998 after de-duplication), Teleprompter (1,000), Teleprompter Pro (700, all available), Teleprompter for Video (900), BIGVU (1,000) and PromptSmart Pro (1,000). Total: 5,598 reviews. Because the export is “most recent first”, the period each sample covers depends on how quickly the app collects reviews: nine months for Teleprompter.com, five years for Teleprompter Pro, seven years for PromptSmart Pro.
Topic percentages are calculated on the 4,054 English-language reviews using keyword matching (for example, “crash”, “freeze”, “glitch” and “bug” for the reliability theme; “voice”, “pace”, “auto-scroll” and “follows my” for voice-paced scrolling; for the two apps without the feature we read the matching reviews by hand, and they are voice-over users or requests for the feature, so the row is marked “not offered”).
Keyword matching under- and over-counts at the margins, so treat differences of a point or two as noise and differences of five points or more as real. “Positive” and “favorable” mean four or five stars. Quotes are verbatim, typos included. Star averages are for the written-review sample and will be lower than the App Store’s headline rating for every app on this list, because people who write reviews complain more than people who only tap stars.

Based on 5,598 recent App Store reviews, Teleprompter.com has the lowest rate of crash and bug complaints (4.3% of reviews), the most positively reviewed voice-paced scrolling in the category, and it is the only one of the three top-rated apps that offers voice-paced scrolling at all, so it is our pick for anyone who records to camera regularly, handheld or on a rig. Teleprompter Pro is the pick for operators prompting other people from multi-iPad sets, and the fixed-speed Teleprompter app is the pick for a one-off speech.
It depends on what you want the free tier to do. Teleprompter.com’s free tier is the only one on this list with voice-paced scrolling (VoiceGlide), plus recording and sync across phone, tablet, Mac and web; exports carry a watermark until you subscribe. If you only need fixed-speed text on a handheld phone for a single speech, the free Teleprompter app by Teleprompter Apps Ltd is the simplest option, though mirroring and remotes are paid there. Teleprompter for Video’s free tier has a character limit. On every app on this list, mirrored text for a glass rig is a paid feature.
Teleprompter.com (VoiceGlide), Teleprompter for Video, BIGVU and PromptSmart Pro (VoiceTrack) offer voice-paced scrolling. Teleprompter Pro and Teleprompter do not; both scroll at a set speed. In user reviews the feature is rated most positively for Teleprompter.com (9% of reviews mention it, 87% of them four or five stars) and least positively for PromptSmart Pro (38% mention it, 16% positive).
Teleprompter.com is the only app on this list with native apps for iOS, Android and macOS plus a web app on one subscription. Teleprompter Pro is Apple-only; Teleprompter for Video is iOS-only; BIGVU is mobile plus web; PromptSmart Pro has iOS and Android apps.
Its 2026 reviews are the best in its history (2.55 stars in our sample) but still the lowest on this list, and 38% of its reviews are about voice tracking, mostly negative. If you already own it and it works for you, keep it. If you are buying today, compare it with the top three.
Written reviews skew toward complaints and toward the moment right after something went wrong, so the averages are lower than the store rating for every app. They are reliable for comparing apps against each other and for finding out what actually goes wrong, which is how we used them here.
