Zero Data Retention (ZDR) is an opt-in setting available to Teleprompter.com teams on team plans. When enabled, ZDR ensures the AI features you use through our platform do not retain your inputs or outputs. This page explains what ZDR does, what changes when you turn it on, and what stays the same.
ZDR is configured by team admins in Team Settings and applies to every member of the team across web, iOS, and Android.
What is Zero Data Retention?
ZDR is a guarantee about what AI sub-processors don't store on your behalf. When ZDR is enabled for your team:
- The AI providers we use to power Teleprompter.com features do not retain your prompts, generated content, or any other input/output beyond the lifetime of the request needed to serve the response.
- Voice data used for transcription is processed locally on your device and is never sent to a third-party AI provider.
- Any third-party AI provider involved in serving your team must contractually meet our ZDR requirements — no training on your data, no long-term retention.
ZDR does not change how Teleprompter.com itself stores the content you explicitly save in the product (your scripts, recordings, and account data). Those are governed by our standard Privacy Policy.
What changes when I enable ZDR?
Three things change when ZDR is turned on for your team:
1. AI script generation runs on a ZDR-compatible provider
By default, Teleprompter.com generates scripts using our default AI provider. When ZDR is enabled, script generation is routed to a ZDR-compatible provider that operates under a zero-retention policy: your prompt and the generated script are not stored by the provider
beyond the time needed to return the response, and they are not used to train any model.
2. Speech-to-text runs only on local, on-device models
By default, Teleprompter.com may use cloud-based speech-to-text providers for transcription. When ZDR is enabled, transcription runs only on local models on your device. Your voice and audio never leave the device for the purpose of transcription.
3. All third-party AI providers must be ZDR-compatible
Any AI feature that calls a third-party provider on behalf of a ZDR team will only use providers that contractually meet ZDR requirements (no retention of inputs or outputs, no training on your data). If a feature cannot be served through a ZDR-compatible path, it is disabled
for your team while ZDR is on.
What stays the same?
ZDR governs how AI sub-processors handle your data. It does not change how Teleprompter.com itself stores content you create or upload. The following remain governed by our standard Privacy Policy:
- Scripts, folders, and other content you save to your workspace
- Recordings you upload to the cloud
- Account data (name, email, team membership, billing details)
- Usage metadata used to operate the service (e.g., feature usage, error reports, billing-related events)
If you need details on retention periods, sub-processors, or data location for any of the above, see the Privacy Policy.
Are there tradeoffs?
A few things to keep in mind before turning ZDR on:
- Different AI models. Because script generation routes to a ZDR-compatible provider, the underlying model is different from the default. Output style, length, or quality may differ from what you're used to.
- Local transcription depends on the device. Speech-to-text accuracy and speed under ZDR depend on the capabilities of the device running the app. Older or lower-powered devices may transcribe more slowly or less accurately than a cloud-based service would.
- Some AI features may be unavailable. If a feature can only be served by a provider that does not meet our ZDR requirements, it will be disabled while ZDR is enabled for your team.
How do I enable ZDR?
- Sign in as a team admin on a team plan.
- Open Team Settings.
- Toggle Zero Data Retention on.
The change takes effect immediately and applies to every member of the team on every platform (web, iOS, Android). You can turn ZDR off at any time from the same setting.
Only team admins can change this setting. If you are a team member and want ZDR enabled (or disabled) for your team, contact your admin.
